HOW TO USE MOTOROLA CPS SOFTWARE UPDATE
How do I update my Mototrbo CPS software? Think carefully before you program any codes into your Motorola walkie-talkie because walkie-talkies can’t communicate with each other if they are programmed with different codes. Motorola Family Radio Service (FRS) walkie-talkies can be programmed with codes-to eliminate interference from other users. These units must be programmed by the end user before they are able to transmit or receive calls.

Transceivers used in amateur radio are almost always fully programmable, and are usually shipped without any pre-programming from the manufacturer or dealer. They can also be set up for communications among specified users or on customized channels. Programmable two‑way radios can be programmed as a base or repeater, which can increase operating range.

Motorola will sell you the software online via credit card. You’ll visit the site, create an account (specify you’re an End User), and then search for the part number for the software you need. Motorola sells the programming software for all of its two way radios via Motorola’s purchasing website. How do I program my Motorola radio software?

HOW TO USE MOTOROLA CPS SOFTWARE UPGRADE
It is not possible to upgrade the firmware over the air.
HOW TO USE MOTOROLA CPS SOFTWARE PC
firmware in your PC you might need to keep CPS 16.0 (828) as the older firmware installation packages look for the presence of this when run. When I say higher tier radios, I mean the: MOTOTRBO radios shipped in EMEA as of November 2019, will come standard with a 5-year software maintenance agreement as well as a number of premium features free of charge. The DP540* DP1400 SL1600 DM1400 and DM1600 are considered low tier radios and can be upgraded even if they are not covered by any support agreement or hardware warranty. The firmware packages themselves are provided free, however, in order to upgrade higher tier radios beyond R02., the radios either need to be in warranty or covered by a software maintenance agreement. You can find a complete and up to date listing of all relevant MOTOTRBO software versions here.

EMEA Reseller Partners will also have access to Motorola Online and are able to find all the software there. From my own experience, most folk will simply share this with their customers on a stick etc. In EMEA, CPS2 can be supplied by Motorola Solutions or one of their Reseller Partners, on a DVD by ordering GMVN6241C. Apart from the enhancements and new features, these updates may contain one or more bug fixes.ĬPS2 is the recommended software needed to program individual radios however, for larger fleets, my preference is to use Radio Management (even if some/all of the radios don't support OTAP). Updating the firmware is (IMHO) an important aspect of maintaining MOTOTRBO two-way radios.
